The Carolina Hurricanes have gotten used to life without goaltender Frederik Andersen, who has developed a reputation of being one of the more injury-prone goalies in the NHL today.

Frederik Andersen was activated from injured reserve and will be the backup for the Hurricanes against the Vegas Golden Knights on Friday (7 p.m. ET; FDSNSO, SCRIPPS, NHLN, TVAS2).

Backup netminder Frederik Andersen was placed on injured reserve, the team announced Tuesday. In a subsequent move, the Hurricanes recalled defenceman Ty Smith from the AHL's Chicago Wolves. The move comes after the 35-year-old has already missed a significant amount of time due to knee surgery, missing 37 games dating back to Oct. 28.
