The Green Bay Packers actually did it. They selected a wide receiver in the first round of the NFL Draft. And they did it before 205,000 football fans outside Lambeau Field. Packers president Mark Murphy announced the selection of Texas wide receiver Matthew Golden as the 23rd pick to thunderous cheers from the massive crowd in Green Bay.

The Green Bay Packers selected Texas wide receiver Matthew Golden with the No. 23 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft on Thursday night. Golden is the first wideout Green Bay has drafted in the first round since Javon Walker in 2002.

The biggest ovation from the first night of the NFL Draft at Lambeau Field on Thursday night came, unsurprisingly, when the Green Bay Packers made their pick. After a rendition of the "Beer Barrel Polka" the Packers' pick was announced. And with the 23rd overall pick the Packers had some fun, taking speedy Texas receiver Matthew Golden.
