A person died and a passenger is injured after the small plane in which they were traveling crashed near Cottonwood in Tehama County.

TEHAMA COUNTY – One person has died after a small plane crashed in Northern California on Tuesday, authorities say. The Tehama County Sheriff's Office says first responders were called to the scene off of Phyllis Road, southwest of the community of Cottonwood, late Tuesday afternoon.

Tehama County Sheriff's deputies and Cal Fire responded to the crash site around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Smoke from the crash was visible in a time-lapse video from an Alert California camera. Capt. Derek Sherrell of the Tehama County Sheriff's Office confirmed two people were on board.
