The eland is one of the largest antelopes — and one of the most graceful. Known scientifically as Taurotragus oryx, the eland lives in Africa, mostly in eastern and southern Africa.

The Lehigh Valley Zoo is celebrating the birth of the first-ever common eland born at the Schnecksville nature preserve. The yet-unnamed calf was born to mother Moira and father Code on Jan. 6.

The zoo, in conjunction with Lehigh Valley Health Network, announced the birth of a common eland born to mother Moira and father Code on Jan. 6. The calf is the first eland born under the zoo's care.
