All the blood and glory of defeating enemies might not be as over-the-top as long-time DOOM fans expect anymore. During the highly-anticipated reveal of id Software and Bethesda’s DOOM: The Dark Ages trailer at the Xbox Developers Showcase last week,

The Dark Ages talks about why the game won't include a multiplayer mode like the past few titles in the series.

Five years on from the release of Doom Eternal, developer id Software is hard at work making the series' next instalment, Doom: The Dark Ages, bigger and better than its predecessors, and according to them,

Doom brought deathmatch to the masses, but the world has moved on, and so have the games.

When game director Hugo Martin discussed “Doom: The Dark Ages,” three images spring up over the discourse. The first is Leonidas in the “300” battling the Persians at the Hot Gates in Thermopylae. The second is another Frank Miller project “The Dark Knight Returns” and the last one is a tank.

Melee weapons include your trusty ol' gauntlet, as well as a ball-and-chain-like weapon. Combine that with the shield saw, which you can throw to tear up enemies and even use as a makeshift grapple point, and let's just say the gameplay looks as exciting as ever.
