Strong winds cause power outages, travel hazards across Washington County on busy holiday travel day
Strong winds are causing power outages and travel hazards across Washington County as WE Energies crews work to restore electricity.
A strong cold front will sweep through and kick up wind gusts as high as 40 miles per hour on Thanksgiving and Black Friday. The wind could down trees and power lines, setting the stage for outages just as a post-Thanksgiving storm moves in later Friday.
An updated weather alert was issued by the National Weather Service on Wednesday at 10:03 p.m. for strong winds until Thursday at 2 a.m. for Passaic, Hudson, Bergen, Essex and Union counties.
Central Indiana is under a Wind Advisory with gusts up to 50 mph; Thanksgiving Day will be mostly sunny with possible high winds.
A strong cold front will move through Western New York early this afternoon. Temperatures will drop and winds will increase this afternoon.
A wind advisory is in place for most of the state through Sunday evening. Wind gusts could peak around 50 mph at times today. Not everyone in the state will see wind gusts that strong, however the potential is there. Far southern Maryland and the Lower Eastern Shore are not included in the wind advisory however winds will be elevated statewide.
