Authorities in Minneapolis arrested a 16-year-old suspect in last month’s shooting death of an 11-year-old boy. The Minneapolis Police Department announced the arrest on Wednesday. The suspect, who was not named by police, was arrested Tuesday morning in Apple Valley morning and booked into the Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center.

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara says a 16-year-old male has been arrested for the murder of 11-year-old Amir Lamar Atkins. The 16-year-old was arrested on Tuesday in Apple Valley. He was taken into custody without incident and was booked into the Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center.

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of an 11-year-old at a Minneapolis park last month.

Minneapolis Police Department says the shooting was reported at an apartment building on the 100 block of East 59th Street in the Windom neighborhood at 12:37 p.m., with officers arriving to find a man and a woman – both in their 20s – dead and a woman in her 40s with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

Amir Lamar Atkins was shot and killed on June 23 at Folwell Park. Police arrested a 16-year-old suspect on Tuesday.

The teen suspect was arrested in Apple Valley Tuesday morning without incident, and booked into the Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center.

A man killed near the Mississippi River in Minneapolis was a 19-year-old from St. Paul, the medical examiner’s office said Monday. Darnell Hawkins Mapp was found with multiple gunshot wounds in the area of North Mississippi Drive and North Lyndale Ave after officers responded to a shooting report about 3:10 a.m. Sunday. He died at the scene.
