The spike in text messages appears to come from TxTag which recently transitioned drivers to a different toll service.
Several TxTag customers have reported receiving text messages claiming to have a toll balance due or past due.
Thousands have filed reports relating to a phishing scam in the form of text messages stating that you have unpaid toll tags.
"TxTag does not send emails or text messages to customers regarding balances due," the state agency said. You should ignore the text messages.
