Nifty 50 and Sensex experienced their worst intraday performance of the year on February 27 due to escalating trade tensions, causing a mass exodus of investors from equities and a significant drop in stock values.

The benchmark 10-year bond was quoted at 100.50 rupees, with the yield little changed at 6.7169% as traders watch for a weekly auction as well as domestic GDP growth data. The one-year overnight index swap rate was down 2 basis points at 6.25%, while the five-year swap rate dropped 2 bps to 6.00%.

As many as 908 stocks hit a 52-week low in today's session. Tata Motors from the Nifty pack plunged 4 percent to a low of Rs 623.

The trends on Gift Nifty also indicate a gap-down start for the Indian benchmark index. The Gift Nifty was trading around 22,542 level, a discount of nearly 141 points from the Nifty futures’ previous close.

After a break for Maha Shivratri on February 26, the stock market resumed trading on February 27. In the pre-opening session, the Sensex slipped 32.80 points to 74,569.32, while the Nifty 50 saw a decline of 368.15 points, trading at 22,179.40.

Nifty breaks 28-year record with fall in five consecutive months, while Sensex sees a decline for three straight months.

Taking cue from the weak global trends, both BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty 50 tanked on Friday, leaving investors high and dry, making them poorer by over Rs 9 lakh crore. The market capitalisation of all listed companies on the BSE dropped by Rs 9.
