Taiwan has added China’s tech titan Huawei and chip giant Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC) to its export control list, stepping up efforts to align with Washington’s crackdown on companies driving Beijing’s artificial intelligence ambitions.

Taiwan has added Huawei and Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp. (SMIC) to its export control list, bringing it into line with US trade policy. By including the Chinese chipmakers on its Strategic High-Tech Commodities Entity List, Taiwanese companies will now need to obtain an export license before selling to them.

Both companies are already blacklisted by the US government and face sweeping American restrictions on access to advanced chips and manufacturing tools.
