The iconic pod racer sounds in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace were created using real race car recordings, blending various high-performance engines to give each pod a distinct personality. Sound designer Ben Burtt recorded everything from IndyCars to dragsters, motorcycles, and even WWII fighter planes to craft the high-pitched whines and deep roars heard in the Boonta Eve Classic. Sebulba’s pod, for example, was based on a heavily modified P-51 Mustang engine, while Anakin’s pod sou
