Broken hairs tend to be shorter than shed hairs, so this can be a helpful indicator, but not always... It’s still very possible to have long pieces of breakage because breakage can occur at any point on your hair strand, including near the top of your head from styling. Another way to figure this out is to check either end of the hair strand for a speck or a dot. That speck is actually your hair
