Seagate Castle, in Irvine, North Ayrshire, dates back to at least the 12th century. A wooden fortress belonging to the De Morville family is recorded in 1184. In the 14th century it was rebuilt in stone, and around 1361 it passed to the Montgomerie (Eglinton) family.
