Northern Perspectives on Instagram: "Byland Abbey lies at the foot of the Hambleton Hills in North Yorkshire, its ruins marking the site of one of the most important Cistercian monasteries in medieval England. Founded in the 12th century after several earlier moves, the abbey finally settled here around 1177. Its church was one of the largest built by the Cistercians, with the great west front and rose window still giving a sense of its original scale and ambition. The abbey was dissolved in 153
